The Gambler

Dear Pon,

I went to the Casino tonight. It was my first time back since we went, since you passed. It was one in the morning. I was on my way home when one of my friends text messaged me that they were at the casino. I had wanted to play cards that night and had an itch to lose some money.

I walked into the Casino and found my friends instantly, which we all know is very lucky. The table games were only $15 dollars a hand, but still too rich for my blood. One of my friends suggested that I play the electronic roulette game. I think that they are rigged, but since real roulette starts bidding at first born children... I settled.

I sat down at the middle machine and quickly won on my ten dollars. However, after two or three spins was back to even and cashed out. My friend on the right was still playing and she was playing odd and losing every time. After about six spins I told her to put five on odd and we won. I stopped having her play my money after winning and losing 5 bucks. She eventually lost all of her money and one dollar of my own, nine left. She said "I will win it back"... bet one... lost... eight dollars left... bet two... lost... six... bet three... won... still one dollar down. She then bet one and won back my dollar. Next I bet a few more times on that ten and cashed out at $30.

I was feeling a little lucky and decided to play like we (mostly you (fine it was all you)) did last time. I pulled out a new twenty for a new machine. I looked and I looked and I could not find a single machine   that I knew we had played. I looked for the progressive machine that we had sat at for a long time. It, I think, has become a completely different slot and a nickle at that! Finally, I saw a top dollar that I know we didn't play but seemed right. It was a dollar machine and it was on the end. I put in the twenty and hit max... three bucks gone. I hit it again, and again, and again. I was down to around 5 dollars, I hit something big (mid-80ish). My friends didn't know how we (you) played, they thought I was going to cash out.

I didn't.

The money went as quick as it came. I made it to the bonus round a few times got back up to fifty or sixty once or twice.  I kept playing the max, I kept losing, but I kept winning. Eventually, I would get down to twenty and I would wonder if I should cut my losses, I didn't. My friends were having fun. They liked your way of playing even if none of us can really afford to play it. I ended up with a single dollar, I added two ones...lost. But it had been a good twenty plus minutes. It was a rush. My friend feeling inspired played a twenty and had no luck. One of my other friends foolishly thought they could play $6 and in two quick spins, it was gone. I played at about the pace you played (far to fast if you ask me) and I only hit the 'max' or the 'repeat' button. I didn't pull the lever, because that is not how you played. I played a new machine, with a new twenty, I didn't like it so I walked away with $34. I played another, new twenty, lost it. I found another top dollar. This time I played a single top dollar rather than the 'double.' Top dollar is the game that you lost at really fast, we thought you were winning, it had been really confusing. This time it (or this version) was more straight forward. I put in a new twenty, I won up to $65. Decided to play down to 50. I won, I lost after ten minutes or so I finally cashed out at fifty. It was two-o-clock, it was time to go home.

I am sure that you were gambling with me tonight. Hopefully, you got to play some in your section before I moved machines. Thanks for all the fun times. I officially gambled all of the twenties that you gave me the last time. And I walked away once again with more (not much) but enough.

Thanks for the fun time, it was truly an experience.  I am not sure which one of us needed it more but I am glad we said our goodbyes on a good day... on a great day.

Forever lucky,
Paul
